Julie Stokes

Where is your hometown?
Woodbridge, VA

What was your major(s)/degree(s) and where did you go to school?
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in Psychology from Christopher Newport University, GO CAPTAINS! (I thought I wanted to be a Forensic Psychologist like on Criminal Minds :-) ) I earned my Masters degree in Higher Education Administration from Old Dominion University.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in higher education?
I truly enjoy helping people and getting to know them. Meeting new people and learning about them and how I can play a small part in their story gives me my energy and strength. I was very involved in college as a resident assistant, orientation leader, student government leader, and a member of a sorority. I was very blessed to have such great mentors who helped guide me and helped me to grow into the person I am today, and I wanted to help do the same for other college students and make a difference. I am excited to be a part of the Texas State community and can’t wait to start advising students.

What is your favorite part of working for Texas State University?
I love working with a fantastic group of people who share the same passion for guiding students along their educational journey. Being at the Round Rock campus and watching it grow is really exciting!

What “words of wisdom” would you like to share with students?
Don’t ever let anyone tell you you can’t do it. If you know where to look, there will always be a helping hand to guide you and cheer you on!

Tell us a random fact about yourself:
I love the Little Mermaid and my office is decorated in a beach theme with mermaid figurines.
