Application & Admission Requirements

Consideration for admission to McCoy College undergraduate programs is based on specific admission criteria and is conducted as a rolling admission process.  Students attending Texas State who are currently on academic probation are not eligible for admission.

Admission Process

Please choose one of the following procedures depending on your status.

Students Applying for Texas State Admission and McCoy College Admission

This process is for students not yet admitted to Texas State and that have never attended Texas State in the past.

Currently Enrolled at Texas State with 30 or more Hours

This process is for students that are currently enrolled in courses at Texas State that have 30 or more semester hours posted to their Texas State transcript.

Enrolled at Texas State with Less than 30 Hours

This process is for students that are currently enrolled in courses at Texas State that have less than 30 semester hours posted to their Texas State transcript.

Students Seeking a Second Bachelor's Degree

Applicants must have completed a four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and have a 2.5 or higher overall GPA in order to be eligible for a second bachelor's degree.

Former Texas State Students

A former Texas State student is someone who has not been enrolled for a minimum of one long semester but now wants to return to campus to continue their studies.

Transient and Special Students

Students from other universities who temporarily take business courses at Texas State with the intention of transferring back to their home institution are called Transient students. Students with prior college work, and no Bachelor's degree, who are not working toward a degree at Texas State are called Special students.


Admission Requirements

Requirements for Students with Fewer than 30 Hours Completed

Applicants with fewer than 30 semester hours will be admitted to McCoy College if they:

Applicants denied admission to McCoy College will be considered for admission to the University as exploratory professional (undecided). Once the applicant has completed 30 transferable semester hours, including ENG 1310 (College Writing I), ENG 1320 (College Writing II) and MATH 1329 (Mathematics for Business and Economics II), or their approved equivalents, and has achieved a minimum 2.5 overall GPA, the applicant will be eligible to submit an application through the McCoy College Advising Center website for admission to McCoy College.

Requirements for Students with 30 or more Hours Completed

To be eligible for admission to McCoy College, students with at least 30 transferable semester hours must have completed ENG 1310 (College Writing I) and ENG 1320 (College Writing II), and MATH 1329 (Mathematics for Business and Economics II), or their approved equivalents.  The required courses must be complete and posted to your Texas State record for your application to be considered.

Automatic: Applicants will be automatically admitted to McCoy College when they have been granted assured admission to Texas State and have an overall GPA of 3.25 or higher.

Competitive: Applicants with an overall GPA below a 3.25 and equal to or greater than 2.5 will be considered for admission through a competitive review process. The review is based on the grades earned in English 1310, English 1320, Math 1329 and the overall GPA from all colleges and universities attended. Applicants denied admission to McCoy College will be considered for admission to the University as exploratory professional (undecided).


McCoy College Admission Priority Dates and Texas State Admission Deadlines

It is recommended that potential students submit their complete application by the priority date.  Applications received after the priority date will be considered for admission on a space-available basis.

Students not yet admitted to Texas State must meet Texas State admission deadlines.  

To be considered for admission, required courses for students with 30 or more hours earned must be complete and posted to your Texas State record at the time your application is received.
