Admission Requirements & Deadlines

Admission to McCoy College is competitive, and a student must be admitted to pursue a BBA degree program.

For students not yet admitted to Texas State, consideration for admission to McCoy College is automatically included with the Apply Texas application when a business major is selected as the first choice major.  For students already admitted to Texas State and attending classes, a different application process is required.

Admission is granted based on automatic admission criteria or competitive criteria.  The competitive review is conducted twice per year following the respective deadline for each semester.  For specific information about admission policies and procedures, please see the information below.  Students with 30 or more hours earned should take special note of the course requirements that must be complete to be considered for admission.

Freshmen - Students with Fewer than 30 Semester Hours

Freshmen students must, as a minimum, be granted assured admission to the University to be considered for McCoy College admission.  Applicants are automatically admitted to McCoy College when ONE of the following is met:

  • SAT composite score is 1200 or greater*
  • ACT composite score is 27 or greater*
  • Applicant is ranked in the top 25% of their high school graduating class

Applicants that do not meet automatic requirements will be considered for the remaining openings through a competitive review process. The review is based on the applicant's high school academic record, standardized test score (SAT or ACT), or a combination of the two. Applicants admitted to the University, but denied admission to a business degree program will be considered for admission to their second choice major or as undeclared. Students attending Texas State who are currently on academic probation are not eligible to apply.

* SAT composite score is computed using Mathematics and Critical Reading sections as reported by SAT; ACT composite score is average of English, Reading, Mathematics, and Science as reported by ACT.

Transfer - Students with 30 or more Semester Hours

To be eligible to apply for admission to McCoy College, students must be granted assured admission to Texas State and must have completed at least 30 transferable semester hours including ENG 1310 (College Writing I) and ENG 1320 (College Writing II), and MATH 1329 (Mathematics for Business and Economics II), or their equivalents.

Applicants will be automatically admitted to McCoy College when they have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicants with an overall GPA below a 3.0 will be considered for admission through a competitive review process. The review is based on the grades earned in English 1310, English 1320, Math 1329 and the overall GPA from all colleges and universities attended.  Students attending Texas State who are currently on academic probation are not eligible to apply.
