Admission Requirements

There are three sets of admissions requirements for McCoy College depending on how many hours of college-level coursework you have completed.

Students with Less than 30 Hours Students with 30 or More Hours Second Degree Seekers

Students with less than 30 hours of college coursework do not have any specific course prerequisites needed to apply.

Students with 30 or more hours of college coursework complete must have:

  • ENG 1310 (College Writing I)
  • ENG 1320 (College Writing II)
  • MATH 1329 (Mathematics for Business & Economics II)

or their approved equivalents completed and posted to their Texas State record in order to apply.

Students who have completed a four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university are eligible to apply for a second bachelor's degree.
Automatic Admission:
Students who meet the assured admittance requirements for Texas State and list a business major as their first choice will be automatically admitted to McCoy College.

Automatic Admission:
Applicants will be automatically admitted to McCoy College when they have been granted assured admission to Texas State and have an overall GPA of 3.25 or higher.

Automatic Admission:
Applicants with an overall GPA of 2.5 in their first degree will be automatically admitted to McCoy College.
Competitive Review:
There is no competitive review process for students with less than 30 hours. Once a student has 30 or more hours completed, they may reapply to McCoy College using the criteria at right.
Competitive Review:
Applicants with an overall GPA below a 3.25 and equal to or greater than 2.5 will be considered for admission through a competitive review process. The review is based on the grades earned in English 1310, English 1320, Math 1329 and the overall GPA from all colleges and universities attended.
Competitive Review:
There is no competitive review process for second-degree-seeking students. Unfortunately, once a student's first degree overall GPA has been determined, there are no opportunities to raise this GPA, and admission to McCoy College for a second bachelor's degree will never be possible.

Notes:

  • Current Texas State students whose TXST GPA is below a 2.0 are not eligible to apply for McCoy College regardless of their overall GPA or assured admittance status. Students with a TXST GPA below a 2.0 must raise their TXST GPA to a 2.0 or higher in order to apply.
  • Students who are not admitted to McCoy College (with the exception of second-degree-seeking students) will be considered for admission to Texas State as an Exploratory Professional (pre-business) student and may be advised by PACE Advising Services (incoming freshmen) or University College Advising Services (transfer students and current Texas State students).
