How to Request Evaluation and Substitution of a Non-equivalent Course

(For students currently attending Texas State) When a student completes the admission process to Texas State, initial course evaluation is performed by Undergraduate Admissions based on the transfer equivalency guides. For courses that are ruled not directly equivalent, students may provide more information about course content and have courses evaluated further to determine if they can be used towards degree requirements. A student must schedule an appointment with his/her academic advisor for instructions about completing this process. Additional procedures for completing this process for core curriculum courses may be found on the University College website.

Policies that Most Frequently Affect the Transfer of Coursework

Junior College Hours Limit
A maximum of 66 hours may be applied from a junior college towards a bachelor's degree. (page 54, 2006-2008 Undergraduate Catalog)

Residency
To qualify for graduation with a bachelor’s degree, a student must have been in residence at Texas State for at least two long (fall or spring) semesters or 30 weeks in summer terms. A student must also complete, through Texas State coursework, at least 25 % of the minimum number of semester hours required for the degree; within this requirement, at least 24 semester hours must be advanced and at least six hours of the advanced work must be completed in the major at Texas State. Additionally, at least 24 semester hours of the last 30 hours completed that are required for the degree must be taken at Texas State. Correspondence, extension, and off-campus coursework completed through Texas State may be applied toward residency requirements. Credit-by-examination may not be applied toward residency. McCoy College 50% Requirement
Fifty percent of business courses must be completed at Texas State. This includes courses in the common business core, major, and restricted/advanced electives. (page 128, 2006-2008 Undergraduate Catalog)
